Riyaaz – June 2021

Riyaaz

June 2021

What happens when the Riyaazees meet Mr. Chandramohan Kulkarni and Ms. Taposhi Ghoshal twice a day for an entire week? They try, they falter, they consult, they redo, and they learn. This learning curve is not to be examined solely in terms of how their works strive towards seamlessness but is equally about making new mistakes. The June sessions had our students wrap their heads around the technical aspects of drawing. Bending the rules is mere masquerading if it is not thoroughly informed by the rules. Through several presentations, Mr. Kulkarni and Ms. Ghoshal underlined how with the change in text and context, one needs to re-calibrate one’s approach; to remember that contemplation takes precedence over preparation.

A session on language teaching at primary school level chaired by Mr. Sushil Shukla helped the Riyaazees get a glimpse of the mis-strategies and mechanized ways of Pedagogy which constitutes a large chunk of the category of children’s literature. Mr. Udayan Vajpeyi’s lecture on S.H. Raza’s works was an comprehensive exercise in art-appreciation: appreciation is a meditative process and it demands that the lines, shapes, and colors be read in sync with the context of the one who has called for their commune because appreciation begins not when looking at an exhibit at a museum but en route, in marveling at some pile of pebbles, at the balance that keeps them from getting scattered.
